The announcement that the Beck Theatre has a new operator who will take over its operation when the current contract with Trafalgar ends on 13 January 2025 is excellent news. A community asset vital to many, plus around 100 jobs have been saved at the eleventh hour.

Commenting on the latest development, Liberal Democrat spokesman Tom Cottew said: “The credit for this belongs entirely to those who organised the ‘Back the Beck’ Campaign. Without it, I feel that his situation would have continued to drift, and the Theatre would have been lost. However, if the Council had gripped this issue properly at the outset, no campaign would have been necessary in the first place and both the Borough and above all the workforce at the Beck would have been spared a great deal of stress.”
