Councillor Mike Cox meets local Ruislip Manor Trader Paul Petrou to help with traders' parking worries.

Mike Cox has stepped in to help traders in Ruislip Manor after confusion surrounding the Chamber of Commerce and plans for new parking meters.

Mike wrote to the traders to give them the latest facts: here is the text of that letter:

"After receiving numerous complaints from traders about the proposed new parking scheme Cllr Mike Cox and one of the members of his Focus team knocked on every trader's door in Ruislip Manor.

"The proposal was not popular and overall 60% of those questioned wanted the parking to remain the same, although opinion north of Linden Avenue/Shenley Avenue was split 50:50.

"The result of this survey was sent to the Council on the 5th December as well as to the Chamber of Commerce in order to inform any decision that was to be made. The local Conservative MP even requested a copy of it from us. If you want a copy of it please don't hesitate to email me above.

"We have heard nothing officially from the Council on this matters and the existence of a number of petitions with hundreds of signatures would demand that the Council act quickly to hear these petitions.

"A letter that has been circulated to members of the Chamber of Commerce which has left some traders very confused. Cllr Mike Cox has spoken with the traffic department of the Council who have confirmed that NO decision CAN be made about the scheme until the petition is heard.

"The final officers' report has gone to the cabinet member responsible but the Manor petition has NOT been scheduled in March and is likely to be deferred until April. This is an unacceptable delay.

"The current retail trading conditions are very bad and the Council should be working hard with traders to protect our local businesses. Mike Cox has written to the Council and demanded urgent action to help traders now."
