Hillingdons £5.5m uncollected tax shame7.57.38pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 2nd Oct 2006 At the Council meeting on 28th September Cllr Mike Cox Leader of the Liberal Democrats, asked the Cllr Bianco, the Tory cabinet member for Finance and Business, to confirm a report that uncollected council tax in Hillingdon had risen against a national trend in the rest of the country. Cllr Bianco claimed to know nothing of the report. In a report by the Department of Communities and Local Government Hillingdons uncollected Council tax rose by £750,000 to £5.5m
Cllr Mike Cox, a Managing Director of a firm of Chartered Accountants, said "I always suspected Cllr Bianco didn't now much about the finances of Hillingdon. His reply just goes to show it. What is worse is that at a time when the Tories are cutting services for the most vulnerable members of our community, they are failing to do even the most basic duties of an administration. This utter failure by the administration is appalling and the Overview and Scrutiny committees must investigate this as a matter of urgency."
