Hillingdon East Liberal Democrats Martin Clark - Pete Dollimore - Vic StonehamThe Missing LinkMany local residents are backing the call for an extension of the H98 bus service to link the Hillingdon East area with the Central line at West Ruislip. Years ago, the previous 98 service ran from Hounslow, through Hayes and Hayes End, then up to Hillingdon Station and on to Uxbridge. But when the service was contracted out through the wave of Conservative privatisations, it became the H98 and was cut back - it now turns round at Hayes End, leaving Hillingdon East residents only the local U2. Vic Stoneham said "Although Hillingdon Station is within walking distance, many people want to get to the Central line with its fast service into London, and the main line to Marylebone and out to High Wycombe and beyond. The recent opening of the Westfield shopping centre at Shepherds Bush and new transport interchanges nearby add to the need. And if the H98 came through here, people could easily go south to to Hayes and Hounslow. The U2 is all we've got and that just goes round locally." Extended H98 would be a green solutionMartin Clark added, "Providing people with the bus service they need is a "green" solution too. It would help cut car journeys and reduce the gridlock we often see on the estate."
